Tour arranged by WVU Student Sierra Club included viewings of invasive plant species on the rail-trail, the Beechurst power plant, the Longview power plant, the Richard mine drainage on Deckers Creek, Paul Brown's solar house, and a vegetable oil powered bus!

National Bicycle Greenway - 2005

On May 20th I rode in the Morgantown to Pittsburgh leg of the NBG as part of the National Mayors Ride, and I hope to ride a Kingwood to Morgantown leg in next years ride. There is a strong possibility of this happening with the partnership of PRTC, FOC, Preston County Commission, the City of Kingwood and the National Park Service's Rivers & Trails Program. NBG is an initiative to create a national network of interconnected bike roads and pathways that are safe for all cyclists to ride. Next year, I want to shake the hands of Kingwood's Mayor along with the Mayor of Morgantown and Pittsburgh!

ROWLESBURG ON THE RIVER!

Rowlesburg celebrated more than four decades of its famous Ox Roast in September with an expanded Labor Day Weekend Festival. This is a town that truly owes its existence to the Cheat River. The B&O Railroad blasted its way down into this valley in the 1830s and that was the beginning of the town. It has a rich Civil War history and railroad heritage. These are photos illustrating the diversity of Rowlesburg, from whitewater on the Cheat to railfainning right in town.

On August 19 we invited the public to join us as we toured the River of Promise interpretive trail and several projects to treat Acid Mine Draiange. T & T mine is the site of active treatment with chemicals. The Aquafix doser is used at Rockville Mining.

Jenkinsburg Project

Photos from the Acid Mine Drainage Tour showing the various AMD treatment projects in Preston County. Sites visited included the Woolen Mill Road Interpretive Trail Site (Muddy Creek), T&T #2, Rockville (Permit#5-65-78), the Titchnell Property and Sovern Run #62 . An awesome tour! Highly recommended.
